Health Care Propaganda: Public Option Please
Friday, October 30th, 2009 | Pop Culture Notions, Power & Politics, Tonky Graphic Design, Tonky Limited Editions | No Comments

Just wrapped up some health care advocacy propaganda for PublicOptionPlease.com. I designed these in the spirit of those great WPA posters advocating everything from worker safety to supporting the war effort.
The contest winner gets a cold $1000 and national distribution. The contest is being judged by Arianna Huffington, Margaret Cho, Aaron Rose, Jesse Dylan, Robbie Conal, Marshall Ganz, and Arlene Holt Baker
Hopefully they like the work!
I am selling an extremely limited edition of each design.
20″ by 30″ – Archival Ink Jet Prints
$50 ea. ( framed – $105 )

The American Diorama – Original Panel
Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 | Contemporary Art, The American Diorama, Tonky Limited Editions | No Comments

This is one of the more labor intensive works I’ve made recently.
The title: The American Diorama refers to my ongoing thought experiment imagining this country a million years in the future.
Whether or not we are around still, I like to imagine what the dioramas depicting the USA will look like in the museums of a colonizing civilization of extraterrestrials.
This panel is made of birch and the medium is primarily acrylic paint layered and resisted. With some added collage elements.

NYC Sewer Cover – Wall Graphic
Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 | Tonky Graphic Design, Tonky Limited Editions | No Comments

Team,
Something new, an NYC Sewer Cover Wall Sticker. Like all of our Wall Graphics, this can be applied to any flat (clean) (dry) surface. Could look cool in a bathtub.
Yes, some might call it a “manhole” but that is a gender biased term and also possibly construed by a vulgar mind as R-rated.

NEW! Animal Cell Diagram – Wall Decal
Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009 | Tonky Graphic Design, Tonky Limited Editions | 1 Comment
Mammals,
I’ve just completed a new design, an Animal Cell Diagram wall decal!
L: $60 or s: $40
This would make a perfect gift for a budding young scientist or your weird creationism believing aunty.
What you see is a cross-section complete with nucleus, mitochondria, citoplasm, the golgi complex and more!
And in honor of the golgi complex, enjoy this very early recording of a very young Phish performing Golgi Apparatus.
Golgi, oh woe is me
you can’t even see the sea
Golgi Golgi Golgi Golgi Golgi Golgi
Song starts at 2:10

Tonky’s New Residential Mural (NYC, NY)
Monday, September 14th, 2009 | Contemporary Art, Tonky Limited Editions | No Comments

Welcome,
Feast thine eyes upon some installation pics of a new work I recently completed at a private residence in Manhattan this week. These kind patrons commissioned a one-of-a-kind variation on my unraveling composition in chrome theme.
I’d say it is located in Soho, but it is above Houston St. and so I am not sure if you neighborhood purists would scold me for that. Let’s call it Snoho-Bowery-Village until further notice.
Anyone know a good searchable map to accurately distinguish NYC neighborhoods? I’m talking block by block precision.

President Barack H. Obama Art: MARBLE BUST
Thursday, August 20th, 2009 | Tonky Limited Editions, Uncategorized | No Comments

My Fellow Americans ( and international friends ! )
I wanted to see our President Barack H. Obama as a marble bust in the style of Gian Lorenzo Bernini. So I created this piece of Barack Obama Art using two colors of vinyl (ice blue and black) and applied them to an easy-to-hang grey metal panel (durable powder coating). It measures 18″W by 25″H.
I’ve decided to make this a very small edition of 20.
Priced to sell at $200. Get yours early!

Tonky Art Show – Gimme Coffee Brooklyn
Tuesday, August 4th, 2009 | The American Diorama, Tonky Graphic Design, Tonky Limited Editions | No Comments

Woo Woo!
I’ve hung some new work at Gimme Coffee in Brooklyn and hoping you’ll find some time to see it in person.
The piece above is titled The American Diorama and features a new development in my work. I’ve been using plotter cut vinyl as a resist to build up multiple layers of acrylic paint. The color effect is lucid and shimmery. You need to see it in person!
Gimme Coffee makes the best cappuccino in the world. They make it on the wet side and the foam is partially integrated into the liquid rather than just sitting stupidly on top. When you visit, order it to stay in a pre-heated ceramic cup and get your art on.
